Finnish park receives UNESCO Global Geopark status

The Finnish Geopark of Lake Saimaa (Northern Europe) has just obtained the status of UNESCO Global Geopark. A geopark is a site that shows great interest in its geological heritage. Saimaa Geopark takes its name from the largest lake in Finland, which is also the fourth largest in Europe. One-third of the park's area is made up of water, with thousands of islands.
