The Istrian goat is featured on the Croatian national flag. For many centuries, this animal endemic to Croatia (Eastern Europe) was not protected and served as food for the poorest peasants. Today, the species is protected and critically endangered. National authorities want to double the Istrian goat population every year. The goal: to reach a thousand individuals in 10 years.
