The Colorado River toad (Incilius alvarius), also known as the Sonoran Desert toad, lives in arid zones, can measure up to 19 cm. It is one of the largest amphibians in the United States. It has glands capable of producing substances with strong psychoactive effects. In particular, 5-MeO-DMT: a psychotropic drug nicknamed "God's molecule", known to generate immersive visual hallucinations. The practice dates back decades, but demand for the substance has recently increased, to the point where the animal is at risk of seeing its population decline.
