This spider propels itself to catch its prey
It measures barely a millimeter. The Theridiosomatidae spider, a species endemic to Peru, has a particular hunting technique. It is the only species to achieve such a feat. Clinging to its web, it propels itself like a slingshot to capture its victim. It is nicknamed the slingshot spider. Photo credit: Georgia Institute of Technology
