Bats, the book keepers
2
0
Located in the west of Portugal (Western Europe), the library of the palace of Mafra and the Joanina library in Coimbra, have treasures of literature. To best protect all of these collections, the guardians are helped by bats. When night falls, bats go hunting for insects that live in books and can damage them. Every evening, the guards place leather sheets on the furniture so that nocturnal mammals do not damage them.
