In the Choco region of Ecuador, researchers made audio recordings at various sites to assess their biodiversity. These sound recordings were then analyzed by experts, followed by an AI-assisted computer program capable of recognizing bird calls. Although the AI model could only identify a quarter of the calls compared to the experts, the study suggests that soundscape analysis is a powerful tool for monitoring biodiversity in regenerating tropical forests.
