This species of iguana had disappeared from the island of Santiago, the Galápagos Islands at the beginning of the 20th century. Thanks to a reintroduction program for the species launched in 2019, the Conolophus subcristatus iguana is now reproducing naturally. The news was announced by the Ecuadorian authorities at the beginning of August. As a reminder, the Galapagos Islands are home to unique flora and fauna in the world. On the archipelago, Galapagos penguins coexist with reptiles, birds or hammerhead sharks.
