The gentoo penguin (Pygoscelis papua) is a seabird that lives in sub-Antarctic areas. Like all other penguins, the gentoo penguin cannot fly but is an excellent swimmer. It is the fastest of all penguins: it can reach 35 km/h underwater! In addition to its undeniable physical qualities, the gentoo penguin is a great romantic. When he chooses his female, it is for life. So, to woo his beauty, the gentoo penguin places the most beautiful of pebbles next to her. To build their future nest, the male can offer up to 1,700 pebbles to his sweetheart.
