The indicator bird is endemic to sub-Saharan Africa. It feeds mainly on beeswax and knows perfectly the location of the hives. For hundreds of years, these wild birds have been cooperating with the honey-friendly Yao tribesmen in Mozambique, leading them directly to beehives. The bird alerts the men by singing very loudly and drives them to the tree. The men of the tribe respond with sounds from their ancestors, join them to collect honey, and leave wax for the birds.
