The degradation of coral reefs is one of the major challenges of the current era. Several companies and universities operate to safeguard corals around the world. Recently, a team of researchers from King Abdullah University of Science and Technology in Saudi Arabia 3D printed calcium carbonate skeletons that perfectly mimic coral structures. The idea? Glue pieces of coral to these structures to facilitate the regrowth of the coral and its proper development. Case to follow.
