In Pacific waters, some sharks are larger than usual. Scientists from Polynesia and Hawaii recently observed that tiger sharks and white sharks were 30% larger than average. Polynesia and Hawaii banned shark fishing, respectively in 2006 for the first and in 2022 for the second. This decision is accompanied by reinforced protection of marine areas. These measures allowed the sharks to have more food, which explained their change in morphology. Scientists also put forward a behavioral hypothesis: sharks hunt more and more in groups, compete less and therefore feed more.
