The tapir is one of the most primitive mammals on the planet. It looks like a pig with a trunk. It is a crepuscular animal: it feeds on land and water plants at sunset and dawn. It is able to ingest between 30 to 40 kg of herbs daily. During the hottest hours of the day, the tapir likes to cool off in mud baths.
