Located about 621mi (1000km) south of Tahiti, Rurutu is one of the five main Austral islands, the southernmost archipelago of French Polynesia. It is nicknamed the troglodyte island” because of its particular topography. Its perimeter is indeed bristling with limestone cliffs pierced by imposing caves.
