Aix-en-Provence is a sub-prefecture of the Bouches-du-Rhône department located 19.8 mi (32 km) north of Marseille and the Mediterranean Sea (background). It is limited by the Sainte-Victoire massif to the east and the Trévaresse chain to the west. Bordering a whole series of small localities like Rognes, Le Puy-Sainte-Reparade, Venelles, or Saint-Marc-Jaumegarde, it forms with them and many other the Pays d'Aix within the Aix-Marseille-Provence conurbation.
