Inuit people in the Arctic regions began to settle for about 60 years. Until the middle of the 20th century, they maintained a way of life based on seasonal migrations and availability of natural resources. By the 1960s, most of them lived on permanent reserves with access to health care, schools, paid jobs and other government services.
