Just outside the village of Vosne-Romanée, in the Côte-d'Or department, the vineyards of Romanée-Conti unfold on a small plot of about 5 acres of land. The soil is rich in clay and iron. The name of the wine estate consists of part of the name of the village, Romanée, and of Conti from Prince of Conti, from the house of Condé, who acquired the estate in 1760. Known worldwide, the estate is also named by its initials: DRC.
