The pyramid of the Louvre Museum in Paris is the creation of the Chinese-American architect I. M. Pei. The structure was designed to bring natural light into the museum’s new entrance hall, dug under the Cour Napoléon. The Louvre Pyramid is based on the proportions of the Pyramid of Pharaoh Khufu in Giza, Egypt. Thanks to the glass’s translucency, the buildings of the Louvre are always visible. Over time, the Louvre Pyramid has become the third favourite work of art for visitors to the museum, after the ‘Mona Lisa’ and the ‘Venus of Milo’. It was inaugurated in 1989.
