Following the destruction of a first church in 1692, during the Nine Years' War, a new intramural parish was authorized in Briançon by decree of the Council of King Louis XIV in 1700. Completed in 1718, thirteen years after the start of its construction, the church of Notre-Dame-et-Saint-Nicolas of Briançon was consecrated in 1726 and elevated to the rank of collegiate church in 1746.
