Located in the heart of the Lorraine Regional Nature Park, Madine Lake and its three leisure centers constitute a green lung inside the triangle formed by the cities of Nancy, Metz, and Verdun. More than 250 bird species nest there or pass through the area during migration. Anatidae such as ducks, geese, and swans are numerous on the lake's waters. They also shelter wading birds like herons, egrets, bitterns, greylag geese, and common cranes. In addition to the avifauna, more than 40 mammals species have been observed on the shores of Madine Lake.
