An abbey with a remarkable terroir

In addition to being a renowned religious and historical site, Lérins Abbey on Saint-Honorat Island benefits from a remarkable terroir. Replanted in the 1990s, almost equally in white varietals of Clairette, Viognier, Chardonnay, and Vermentino and red ones of Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Pinot Noir, the vineyards adjoin the abbey. They extend to the clay soils of the island's center and the stonier and draining areas. All the wines produced at Lérins Abbey benefit from the Mediterranean IGP (protected geographical indication) designation.
