A steep and inevitable access

The access to the Croix de Provence from the priory of the Sainte-Victoire mountain is quite steep and rocky and does not offer different alternatives. Its high traffic has made the path extremely slippery, especially on the way down and after rain or snow. At the start of 2014, the Grand Site Sainte-Victoire, responsible for protecting and enhancing an area of 85,251 acres (34,500 ha) around the Sainte-Victoire mountain, had low walls built there to secure the surroundings of the cross.
