The construction of the Sainte-Marie de Fontfroide abbey is estimated in the 11th century. First founded by Benedictine monks, it was then attached to the Order of Cîteaux in 1145. Much more recent than the abbey, its stained-glass windows were commissioned in the 20th century. With their blazing colors, they are far from Cistercian standards. The large rose window on the west facade symbolizes the creation of the world. God the Father appears in majesty surrounded by the signs of the zodiac.
