In 2004, the Damée, Vallet & Associés firm created the garden of the 9 squares between the kitchens and the monks’ refectory of Royaumont Abbey. More than simply a recreation of a Cistercian garden, this one is both an evocation of the medieval plant world and a laboratory for observation. It is designed to host thematic exhibitions that remain in place for three years. After the medicinal plants of the abbess Hildegard of Bingen (1098-1179), dye plants, magic plants and the symbolism of plants, the exhibition, which will run until the end of 2022, tells the story of the journey of plants between East and West in the Middle Ages.
