The hollowing out of wheels, previously in solid wood, two thousand years before our era allowed considerable progress in the field of transport but also in mechanization. The lighter and stronger spoked hollow wheel was immediately used on wagons and battle tanks and in the mechanization of agriculture (animal traction, crop irrigation) and crafts, such as here to power a wood lathe.
