The lagoon area of ​​French Polynesia totals 7456.4sqmi (12,000km²) which explains the natural orientation of Tahitians towards the marine environment. The traditional techniques of lagoon fishing are numerous, because of the species diversity, and require few means. Underwater fishing with a submarine rifle or harpoon is one of them.
