Stairway to Art Nouveau

From the vestibule of the Villa Majorelle, the oak wood staircase winds its twisted curves to the upper floors. Its ivy decoration was designed by Henri Sauvage and executed by Louis Majorelle. The foliage decreases as it rises until disappearing from the railing. Master glassmaker Jacques Gruber also added a chandelier adorned with seaweed motifs, hanging over the first floor. The staircase balances between floral patterns, clean lines, and shades of brown and green on a white background. The omnipresence of floral motifs gives the Villa Majorelle its characteristic Art Nouveau curved lines.
