Reproduction and nesting of the Goliath Imperial Pigeon
The breeding period of the Goliath Imperial Pigeon (Ducula goliath) from October to November. The first step is the construction by the male of a 3.1 to 5.9in (8-15cm) thick and 11.8 to 15.7in (30-40cm) in diameter nest of twigs, placed at an average height of 49.2ft (15m). The female lays a single large white egg - 1.9in (5cm) long by 1.1in (3cm) in diameter - which will be incubated alternately by both parents during 28 days.
