The first bay of the north ambulatory
0
0
An ambulatory goes around the choir of Saint Stephen Cathedral in Metz. The two stained-glass windows in the north apse depict a history of exile and, beyond that, symbolize the Holocaust. The blue and red colors evoke the sacrifice of Isaac. Chagall thus announces that of Christ on the Cross. In the center, a world all in red shows Jacob's struggle with an angel. The all-blue panels relate the manifestation of God to Moses in front of the burning bush.
