On the historic side of Joigny, the Yonne river runs along 'promenade du mail' then 'quai d'Epizy' from 'Faubourg Saint-Jacques'. The city's quays were built at the end of the 18th century, notably for Quai Saint-Nicolas (Quai Leclerc), with the construction of retaining walls by Jean Bourbault and harmonious buildings following the plans of Guillaumot.
