When the Eiffel Tower was inaugurated in 1889, it became the tallest building in Paris at 300 metres high. Today, the third floor of the tower is the highest observation platform open to the public in the European Union. Destined to be dismantled after the World Fair, the tower was saved by the scientific observations carried out by Gustave Eiffel, who installed barometers, anemometers, lightning conductors, etc. The engineer also conducted the first experiments in wireless telegraphy. Radio and then television transformed it into a powerful transmitter and added 24 metres of antenna.
