Bellefontaine is a municipality located between Le Carbet and Case-Pilote on the Caribbean coast of Martinique. With an area of 2,938 acres (1,189 ha) rising from sea level to 2,194 ft (669 m), it is the smallest locality on the island. Created in 1950 from land detached from Case-Pilote, it is also the most recent municipality in Martinique. The main activities of its population of 1,813 inhabitants are fishing, agriculture, and electricity generation. In addition to the largest power plant on the island, the municipality also hosts the Nord Caraïbes high school.
