Groomed trail vs powder snow
0
0
Whenever possible, the dog teams use groomed tracks which prevent the leading dogs from making the trail. They can be bordered as here with lighter and more powdery snow that the musher must avoid. In the event of a runway excursion, the sled risks leaning outwards and potentially getting stuck. The musher must then immediately counterbalance by placing both feet on the inner skate and gently reorienting the sled on the track which it will return to thanks to the pulling force of the dogs.
