Crystal hot work

After heating the end of his cane, the master glassmaker will “pick” (gather) a mass of molten crystal (the parison) in the pot furnace. In the hot workshop of a crystal factory, the pace of work is dictated by the time it takes to solidify the crystal. After one or more pickings, the glassmaker gives the parison a spherical shape. With a short breath, followed by the plugging of the opening of the cane with his finger, he creates a bubble in the crystal. If he tilts the tool towards the ground, the crystal bubble extends by itself, under the effect of gravity. The action is repeated until the desired shape is obtained.
