0
A true mountain in the sea, Corsica is divided into two unequal parts by a continuous mountain chain oriented northwest/southeast. The northeast part, locally called 'Cismonte' or 'En-Deçà-des-Monts', has the highest peaks of the island and almost coincides with the department of Haute-Corse. The southwestern part, called 'Pumonti' or 'Au-Delà-des-Monts', is essentially made up of narrow valleys and medium mountains culminating at 8,189ft (2,496m).
