0
The city of Carcassonne is strongly associated with Catharism. It is a religion derived from Catholicism that originates in Italy and the south of France between the 10th and 12th centuries. The Cathars benefit from the protection of the feudal lords of the south until the movement becomes too important. It is at that time that the Catholic Church decides to launch an unprecedented crusade within Christianity. Sieges and massacres occur until 1229, and the city of Carcassonne is besieged in 1209.
