Built after a primitive church

Notre-Dame de l'Assomption Church in Cuers was built between the late 15th and the beginning of the 16th century. It replaced the primitive church dedicated to the Virgin Mary located under the castle and destroyed during the French Wars of Religion. More accessible to the inhabitants, who had gradually left the top of the village, and larger than the previous one, Notre-Dame de l'Assomption resulted from the expansion of an old Romanesque chapel dedicated to Saint Peter, parts of which have been incorporated into the new building.
