Before the rural exodus of the 19th century which depopulated the village, an abundant population with various professions hid behind the facades of the houses of Châteauneuf-en-Auxois. Thus, in 1890, the village still had two fabric merchants, wholesale wine merchants, a tobacco merchant, a hardware-tinsmith, four innkeepers, a clog maker and two shoemakers, a carpenter, two blacksmiths, two weavers, a baker... but also a doctor-pharmacist, a notary, a tax collector, a teacher and 35 pupils and no less than 20 singers in the church.
