Reims Cathedral is one of the major achievements of 13th-century Gothic art in Europe, inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1991. More than 2,300 statues were created between the beginning of its construction in 1211 and its consecration in 1360. They adorned the chapels, portals, facades, buttresses, and niches near the western entrance to the cathedral. In total, 31 kings of France were consecrated in Reims. The five-hour-long ceremony continued with the coronation banquet at the Palace of Tau and a pilgrimage to the body of Bishop Saint Rémi.
