An estuary linked to William the Conqueror
1
0
A Norman coastal river with an average flow of 3,510 cubic meters per second, the Dives takes its source in Gouffern-en-Auge in the Orne department. It crosses the Calvados department before flowing into the Channel between Cabourg and Dives-sur-Mer. The Dives' hydrology is characterized by an oceanic rainfall regime marked by significant summer low water levels. Its estuary is said to have been used by William the Conqueror in 1066 to assemble a fleet of six hundred ships destined to invade England.
