An estate abandoned and reinvented

The Domaine du Rayol was landscaped by the architect Guillaume Tronchet and the landscape designer Pierre-Victor Halary at the start of the 20th century when it belonged to Alfred and Thérèse Courmes then to Henry Potez. The estate partially succeeded in escaping numerous real estate projects until 1989, when it was purchased by the Coastal Protection Agency after decades of abandonment. The landscaper Gilles Clément reinvented the site by imagining a mosaic of gardens evocative of various regions of the world completed by an underwater path allowing the discovery of the richness of the protected seabed of the Domaine du Rayol.
