Highly varied diet of the jaguar
The jaguar is the biggest cat on the American continent. This carnivore is an opportunistic hunter and has a very varied diet, even if it prefers mammals: it chooses its food from over 80 different species. It slaughters its prey with a powerful bite to the skull and drags it aside to devour it quietly. It feeds on reptiles, such as turtles, caimans, snakes and lizards, but also on rodents and bigger mammals such as tapirs ou agutis, or even on fish.
