The city of Nîmes is renowned for its ancient heritage, art and history, and festive atmosphere. The city's Roman amphitheater, which dates from the end of the 1st century and the beginning of the 2nd century, is remarkably well preserved. This Historical Monument can accommodate up to 24,000 spectators and extends over 436.35 ft (133 m) long and 331.3 ft (101 m) wide. The Arènes de Nimes (Arenas of Nimes) are open to visits and host many shows, bullfights, and Camargue races.
