A thirty year extraction authorization

The Société des Ocres de France is the last ocher company operating in France and Europe. It exploits the Gargas deposit (Les Devens Longs) and processes its production in the Beaumes factory in Apt. In 2008, it obtained the renewal for thirty years of its ocher extraction authorization with an approved volume limited to 12,500 cubic meters per year. The opening authorization of an ocher quarry is subject to the procedure of the mining code, which governs the extractions of aggregates or stones, and requires a public inquiry and an impact study. The exploited site must be restored by its operator at the end of the extraction authorization.
