In the 19th century, the old village perched on a rocky outcrop around the castrum of Saint-Saturnin-lès-Apt was definitively abandoned by the inhabitants in favor of more spacious and comfortable houses located more on the hillside. The houses of the primitive village gradually collapsed and were given over to looters. A steep path still leads to the ruins of the castle and its ramparts that offer a privileged panorama on the Monts de Vaucluse, the Provençal Colorado, Caseneuve, Saignon, the Grand and Petit Luberon, the plain of Cavaillon, the Alpilles, Roussillon and its hills, or Perréal.
