A location compatible with autarky

Notre-Dame de Sénanque Abbey was established in a narrow valley 0.6 mi (1 km) long and only 984 ft (300 m) wide traversed by the Sénancole, a 7.8 mi (12.6 km) stream that originates in the Monts de Vaucluse and confluences on its right bank in the Calavon. Such location ideally meets the prescriptions of the Cistercian order. They stipulate that no monastery should be built in towns nor villages but that each should have all that is necessary (water, mill, garden, bakery ...) to allow the monks to live in autarky.
