Distinguish male and female elephants

It is not always easy to distinguish male and female African elephants. Several indications may be considered. Females are often found in herds, lead by a matriarch, whereas males are usually solitary, although they are sometimes seen in groups of a few individuals. The shape of their head is also a good indicator. Males have a rounded forehead and females a angled one. Here on the picture is a female.
