Distinguish male and female elephants

The Explorers

It is not always easy to distinguish male and female African elephants. Several indications may be considered. Females are often found in herds, lead by a matriarch, whereas males are usually solitary, although they are sometimes seen in groups of a few individuals. The shape of their head is also a good indicator. Males have a rounded forehead and females a angled one. Here on the picture is a female.
