The Kuhl's Lorikeet (Vini kuhlii) feeds on the nectar and pollen of the flowers of many trees, those impressive of the banana tree of course but also of the kapok, mango, avocado or coconut trees as well as the cordyline or the tafano. It pecks small seeds of purau and aito and consumes axillary buds and young shoots of hotu and falcata. It can also be seen in the leaves of certain flowerless or fruitless trees where it digs small holes suggesting that it is also insectivorous.
