The Isle of Pines, a Pacific jewel
2
0
It is the southernmost of the Caledonian islands. Paradisiacal, the Isle of Pines owes its name to James Cook, who approached its coasts in 1774, and who named it so because of the abundant presence of immense columnar pines, or Araucaria columnaris, endemic to the island.
